how do i find out about my native american ancestors?
Apparently, my grandmother was full blooded native american, and she and her mother were put onto a reservation after they walked there on the trail of tears. My dad told me that my grandmother had a tattoo of a number on her wrist that they gave to all the native americans who were put on the reservation. is there any way to research what that number was or more information about any of this?
what is needed is to find accurate and documented dates relating to your grandmother (birth/death, so forth). The Trail of Tears was in the 1830s, which would mean your grandmother was born prior to that time. I have never heard of any “tatoos” relating to Native Americans.
Dad’s info does not fit, unless your dad was born in the mid 1800s himself. Once you have correct dates, you will be able to see if there is even any possible way that this might have happened. She MIGHT have been Native.. I doubt very much that she was on the Trail.
